Fast Track Adult ADHD Assessment Process:
At Enlightened Minds, we always offer a free initial ADHD screening assessment to
determine if a full assessment is warranted first. This is to ensure that you are not
undertaking any unnecessary assessments.
The free initial screening is carried out via email consultation with the Enlightened Minds Clinical Lead and Chartered Psychologist. Full feedback on your outcome is provided completely free of charge and provides an opportunity to ask any questions about the process at this early stage. If your outcome suggests that a full assessment is warranted and you opt to undertake the Fast Track option, the following process can be expected:
Enlightened Minds’ Fast Track ADHD assessments are carried out in two stages, which are completed within the same day. Please note that our ADHD and autism assessments exceed the NICE Government Clinical Guidelines.
The Part 1 Assessment
The Part 1 assessment is completed with one of our experienced neurodevelopmental assessors/clinicians. The clinician may be a Registered Mental Health Nurse/ RMN, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker or other clinician with a relevant core profession in the mental/health field. Clinicians are all registered with their relevant governing body, as required by the NICE Clinical Guidelines.
The Part 1 assessment is carried out via video call and takes around 2 hours and is associated with gathering background information across all areas of your life, including a developmental history. The areas covered will include family background, education, relationships, occupation, social/recreation, mental health, home life, medical history etc. You can take short breaks where required during this part of the assessment. The Part 1 clinician will also want to speak to an observer, someone who can provide some feedback on your presentation, such as a parent, partner, or friend, etc. You can choose to have this person present during your Part 1 assessment, or invite them in at the end, or we can call them by phone directly afterwards.
The Part 1 clinician will then write up a report based on this assessment, including all of the information you provide and this will be available to the Part 2 clinician to review before you attend the final part of the assessment. Please note the Part 1 Clinician will not be able to provide an outcome/ diagnosis at this stage. This will be provided in Part 2.
The Part 2 Assessment
The Part 2 assessment includes the diagnostic interview and feedback session. This is also held via video call and can last up to around 1hour. The Part 2 assessment is completed with Gemma Holmes, our Clinical Lead and HCPC Registered/Chartered Psychologist.
The Part 2 assessment includes a review of all the documentation that you have completed and the Part 1 report (prior to you attending). During the consultation with Gemma, she will explore the diagnostic criteria (DIVA-5) in relation to your individual presentation and provide an outcome as to the presence of ADHD. Gemma will also discuss with you the need for any further screening which may have been highlighted in your assessment. Such examples may include other neurodevelopmental differences such as autism or dyspraxia for instance.
You will also have a space to explore what the outcome means for you, your feelings about it and what support or help you feel you might need going forward, even if you are not sure what help you need at this stage. Gemma will also provide a number of recommendations for further support, treatment and referral options for you to consider. You will have time here to discuss with Gemma any queries or concerns you might have about moving forward with the diagnostic outcome. Gemma will then discuss the next steps following the assessment.
Assessment Reports
Following your assessment, you will be sent a summary report/letter outlining the diagnostic outcome and the key recommendations, normally within 1 hour of the assessment concluding. This will be emailed directly to you.
The full assessment report will follow within 1 week This is a very comprehensive report which includes all of the evidence on which your diagnostic outcome is based. This will also be emailed directly to you. Please note we do not send reports to GPs directly, as a standard procedure. The report will be watermarked as a ‘draft’ for you to review to ensure the accuracy of the information gathered from you in the Part 1 assessment. Once we confirm that you are happy with the report and any necessary edits have been completed, we will sign this off as the final copy.
Post-assessment Support Session
As part of the Fast Track ADHD assessment, we also include a free, complimentary post-assessment support session with a recommended clinician in the Enlightened Minds neurodevelopmental team. This may be a 1:1 coaching or mentoring session, an initial therapy session, a family/couples support session, a study skills session or an initial session on our Online Managing ADHD Group programme. This taster session is a great way to try one of our services to see if it will be the right fit for you.
Considerations of the Fast Track Option:
Before embarking on the Fast Track process, please consider carefully if this option is right for you. The Fast Track option is contingent upon the following factors:
- There are a number of forms to be completed prior to the appointment. Some are for you and some are for an observer/s. These may take a while to complete and the Fast Track option is dependant upon these being available to us prior to the appointment so that we have all of the relevant information to hand in order to be able to come to a diagnostic conclusion on the day. If we don’t have these then we cannot reach a conclusion in the time specified by the Fast Track option.
- We require the attendance/ feedback on the day / time of your appointment from an observer, e.g. parent or partner/friend etc who knows you well. If we are unable to speak to this person on the day we cannot reach a diagnostic conclusion within the Fast Track timescale.

Where any of the above 2 conditions are not met by the time of the appointment, we would need to revert your assessment to our standard assessment procedure. Link to page here.
Also, please note that the Fast Track option is a diagnostic process only, we do not prescribe medication following assessment. We strongly recommend that you speak to your GP first to determine ADHD medication accessibility through the NHS. Some GPs are unable to prescribe/ or refer on via NHS for ADHD medication following a private assessment, therefore in these cases we would refer you to a private provider to pursue a medication process which is completely separate to Enlightened Minds.

Adult ADHD Assessment Overview – Fast, Professional, and Aligned with Clinical Excellence Across Scotland
A Professional Assessment
At Enlightened Minds, we specialise in providing comprehensive ADHD assessments for adults across Scotland, including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ayr, and surrounding areas. Our process is designed to exceed NICE Clinical Guidelines, ensuring you receive a thorough, evidence-based diagnosis with the efficiency modern life demands.
Gold Standard ADHD Assessments for Adults
Our adult ADHD assessments are clinically led by Gemma Holmes, HCPC Registered and Chartered Psychologist. We use the internationally recognised DIVA 5 Diagnostic Interview, combined with an in-depth developmental and background history. Where beneficial, we can also incorporate the QB Check (a continuous performance test) to further support diagnostic accuracy.
All assessments are conducted remotely via secure phone or video consultations — offering flexibility whether you're based in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Ayr, or elsewhere in Scotland.
Streamlined Two-Part Process
Your assessment is delivered over two structured sessions:
- Initial Session: A multidisciplinary clinician gathers detailed background and developmental information.
- Diagnostic Interview: Conducted by a Chartered Psychologist using the DIVA 5 framework.
For those opting for our Fast Track Service, this process is completed in one day, with same-day feedback and a treatment plan.
Thorough Screening & Developmental Insight
Prior to your appointment, you'll complete a set of screening questionnaires to help us understand your current challenges and developmental history. Where possible, we may request input from someone who has known you long-term (family member or close friend) to provide additional context — though we appreciate this isn't always possible for adults, and alternative arrangements can be made.
Medication Referral Support
While ADHD medication can be an effective treatment option, accessing prescriptions via your GP isn't always straightforward. As part of our service, if required, we can provide a referral to a trusted private ADHD prescribing clinic. This ensures you have a clear pathway to treatment, even if NHS routes present challenges.
Post-Diagnostic Support
Our care doesn’t stop at diagnosis. Enlightened Minds offers a range of post-assessment services tailored for adults, including:
- ADHD Coaching
- Study and Workplace Skills Support
- Managing ADHD Support Groups.
This approach highlights:
- Adult-only focus
- Locations for SEO
- How NICE Guidelines are met/exceeded
- Clear explanation of reporting, screening, and referral pathways
- Ends with ongoing support = value & care

FAQs About Adult ADHD
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that can persist into adulthood, impacting various aspects of daily life including attention, impulse control, and hyperactivity. Recognising and understanding ADHD in adulthood is crucial for individuals seeking support and strategies to navigate their unique cognitive style. Enlightened Minds specialises in providing thorough screening and assessment services tailored specifically for adults. Our team of experts employs a comprehensive approach, combining clinical interviews, cognitive assessments, and validated tools to identify potential ADHD traits. Through this process, we aim to offer individuals a clearer understanding of their cognitive profile. If you suspect that ADHD may be impacting your life, or that of a loved one, Enlightened Minds is here to guide you towards a more informed and empowered path forward.
ADHD in adults often presents as difficulty focusing, disorganisation, forgetfulness, impulsivity, restlessness, and challenges with time management. Many adults also experience emotional regulation difficulties and problems maintaining relationships or job performance.
Yes, many adults are diagnosed later in life. While ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that begins in childhood, symptoms can be missed or misunderstood, especially if coping strategies masked the challenges when younger.
At Enlightened Minds, we follow a structured process aligned with NICE Clinical Guidelines, involving screening questionnaires, a detailed developmental history, and a diagnostic interview with a Chartered Psychologist. For Fast Track services, this can be completed in one day with same-day feedback.
Yes, our comprehensive assessment reports are conducted by HCPC Registered professionals and meet clinical standards. They can be used for workplace adjustments, academic support, or private healthcare referrals.
We don’t prescribe directly, but we provide referrals to trusted private ADHD prescribing services if your GP is unable to assist. We ensure you have a clear pathway for medication where appropriate.
The Fast Track Assessment offers a full diagnostic process, same-day feedback, and a rapid report turnaround (within a week). Standard assessments may be spread over multiple sessions with a longer reporting period.
While third-party input (like a parent or long-term friend) can help provide developmental context, we understand this isn’t always possible for adults. We can still complete your assessment using alternative methods.
In addition to ADHD, we screen for other neurodevelopmental differences and mental health conditions that may impact attention, behaviour, or emotional wellbeing.
No, treatment is individual. While medication can be effective, many adults benefit from a combination of approaches, including therapy, ADHD coaching, lifestyle adjustments, and support groups.
Yes! Our assessments are offered remotely across Scotland and the UK via secure video or phone consultations, so you can access expert ADHD diagnosis wherever you’re based.
